I would say any drummachine is good for Hip Hop.

I never used a machinedrum myself but i have a monomachine and the userinterface is from another planet. Everything is logical, hardly any need for the manual. I can only asume its the same for the machinedrum.

Best User interface I have ever used on any gear - and the second best drum machine I have owned

Get one if you get the chance - the Uw version if possible

I got one recently. You could make some interesting hip hop with this.Dont think theres many people using it for this so youl be unique.UW and mk11 is the one to go for.The top two tracks in my sig.no 1 is all md and no 2 mixed with reason and a pinch of mpc4000.Not hiphop but....

allthough you can sample in the UW version, there's only 2 MB sample memory...so using it like an MPC to sample big chunks of music then cutting this up to make beats, is hardly possible.
If you are making hiphop relying heavily on sampling, Machinedrum will not suit the best.

As it comes to creating beats with short samples, Machinedrum has a unique -and after some time very simple- way of working ; you can do tricks with it which would be almost impossible with MPC and all of this without never ever stopping the unit (there is no function in Machinedrum for which it has to be stopped).
So if you're open to some more modern way of making hiphop instead of the oldschool sample way, Machinedrum is super for creating your beats based upon percussive sounds from scratch.

If I could marry the sequencing/pads of the MPC to the FX and modulation routing of the MD I'd be in heaven. I figured that was what the Vapor-ware Linndrum 2 was gonna be.

you can use both. They are 100% ccompatable. Both full midi capable.Maybe the most powerfull hardware sequencer duo s around!!!!
