They announced it a few hours ago at AES. Just wanted to pass the news on to those who may not already know. Downloading it now. Now back to work. Details, here. :D

  • No more LE or MP.
  • Automatic Delay Compensation!
  • More Tracks — Up to 96 Audio Tracks!
  • Record 32 simultaneous inputs.
  • More busses (256), etc.
  • Works with Any Audio Interface — or Standalone!
  • Multitrack Beat Detective — Now Standard!
  • EuCon Support for Euphonix Control Surfaces!
  • DigiBase Pro as standard.
  • OMF/AAF/MXF interchange as standard.
  • And More!

Pretty dope news for those of us who use PT either by itself or with other software, and maybe even others who don't.

What do you really need from pro tools that you don't get from logic?

One cool thing about the whole situation is now people with an emu 1616m interface already have protools HD AD/DA converters.

As for a 1616m pcie owner like myself, I'm happy with using live 8, celemony essentials, adobe soundbooth cs4 to handle my needs.

i guess it would be if you used it for more than recording... i dont use softsynths period so paying that much is not what im looking forward to... i just use it for recording and mixing so that other shit would just sit there... i have 7.4le and for now that works... they have a price set @ 250 for PT w/o the instruments which i feel is more resonable for my use...

I need it to go cross platforms. I need to have two workplaces one in my home country and one here in USA. Spending another 2k + on Mac is not that gr8 perspective. In the long run it will be better for me.

That's what I'm talking 'bout. No more excuses for not owning a viable PT setup.

That's 96 stereo or mono audio tracks at 44.1/48kHz without the Complete Production Toolkit 2. As you double the sampling rate it will be halved. :D

Here's the official version comparison chart.

By the way, updated and works fine with all the interfaces I've tried (coreaudio, haven't tried a PC yet).

If anyone gets the 'could not initialize current playback device' error on Mac (I haven't had it happen) it seems relatively easy to rectify. Delete: /Library/Preferences/com.apple.audio.AggregateDevices.plist
