Pro Tools 9 - no longer tied to their hardware

So now you can use any interface with PT. All you need is an Ilok. Plus it looks like the features from the Music production toolkit are included! This is a big move for Avid...

Why? Logic has been doing what Pro-Tools wasn't. Using any interface has been the norm for every other manufacturer except Pro-tools.

too bad it cost 599 to buy full version now. that sucks. and i bought my m-powered used so i cant upgarde. fml

As long as you have the iLok account information so that you can't load the new licence for Pro Tools 9 onto the iLok you will be able to upgrade. If you don't have it, try to contact the person that you bought it from and see if that can provide you with that information or transfer the account to you.

This is a great advancement. But, in order to use PT9, a lot of us will have to update or buy new computers. PT 9 is only compatible with Snow Lepard and Windows 7. I'm still using PT8 on a G5 machine, so it's really going to cost me money! (Gotta get a new Mac Pro.)
