hey guys, i am looking to get myself a set of monitors and i kinda need a little advice. first of all, the speakers i am interested in are called active speakers. does this mean i can just plug my mixer directly into the speakers....no need for an amp? also, the speakers i am looking at are either krk rokit rp8 g2 or rokit rp6 g2. any recommendations on these speakers? are the rp8's worth the extra money? what speakers do you recommend? cheers

I'd go with rp8s over g2 for subwoofer alone

8 sub is definitely better for more accurate low end,.plus if you like the thum you'll really enjoy making beats on them..any of the budget monitors will color the sound

For the price, KRK Rokits are very good. The 8 inch woofer will provide better bass responds. If you can add more to your budget, check out Blue Sky's MediaDesk 2.1 Desktop Monitor System. This system packs a punch, you can get a really deep bass, not much color and your mixes will translate well.

In my opinion, stay away from the cheaper KRK monitors.

I've heard some good monitors from Mackie, K&S Digital Audio (expensive) and ADAM (also on the expensive side).

so with "active" monitors would you be able to hook them directly up to the mpc outs or would you still need a mixer?

Your name is DickFace...

Yes, you can connect them directly to the MPC, no mixer needed.

would there be any big disadvantage to doing it this way?

No there wouldn't be a an advantage by going Mpc directly into monitors. Actually, it's the other way around. You get many more advantages by running your Mpc through a mixer, because you can adjust levels, and eq your sounds. But as far as quality goes, no it will sound the same, but I would definitely recommend that you purchase a mixer later on, when you can.

As far as the KRK's I personally dont use them but some members rock them and get good results. Hellfire uses them and gets a nice sound.

+10

DJ Hellfire is a member here that gets great results from his KRK Rokit 8's
Heres some of his work...

I use them myself and would say they are great for the price.
BUT... If you got money to spend jump on the Yamaha's.

they get brilliant reviews for sure. hmmm, gotta do a little thinking here. one guy mentions that the yamahas have a very noticeable hiss. have you ever heard these speakers and the hiss thats being mentioned?
