Hey peoples, I was wondering if I might just share a serious gear-related concern I have, and some related questions. Thanks in advance for any helpful input.
I just can't get a loud, crisp sound from anything I record into my Tascam DP-01 FX/CD. Its resolution is only 16-bits, could this be the reason why? Can it really be this bad? After uploading onto my computer hard drive, I compare my mixes to anything on blogs or youtube, and they consistently sound crisper, that is to say, more resolute, deeper and brighter.
Will a 24-bit DAW afford my recordings a similar aural sheen? I'm looking at Cubase and Abelton Live. Will these programs help me to produce a louder, crisper sound?
I'm aware of equipment, such as condensor mics, mic preamps and the like, but this is strictly a question about recorders. Any positive input much appreciated. Thank you.
