Best Cables for MPC

Hi All,

Running my MPC1000 into a apogee duet (recently purchased) via stereo outs. What are the cables you use? Would you recommend them? Why or why not.

FYI - looking at mogwami gold 1/4 cables.

Also, for anybody that has done this - I am still using a regular RCA from my turntable > my numark DXM mixer. Has anybody replaced their RCAs with higher quality or gold cables? What brand?

I am buying these cables with the intent of not purchasing cables again for several years, so I would prefer to spend the $ the first time and get the quality.

get cables that are grounded if you need grounded cables, ungrounded if you don't
don't spend money on overpriced cables, there is no deterioration in sound. you're payin for someone else's brilliant idea to charge more than the other guy and claim superiority.

get cables that won't fall apart, but not ones that claim to have better sound than others because they are lying. or solder your own cables.

soldered cables once a couple years back, but it's been a while so i'll be avoiding that!

i understand what you are saying about the sound quality - obviously it will not improve...the cables I have are old enough anyways, so it couldn't hurt to replace.

There is virtually NO difference between cables other than packaging. I personally make my own. I like not having 8' of slack hanging behind my desk lol.

the thing with gold plated cables is that the whole cable is copper, whats a little layer of gold gonna do to make it sound better. maybe if the whole cable was gold that would be a different story. It's like a chain, if you made 2 links super strong it don't make a difference for the whole chain.

Don't get 99 cent store cables

soldering your own is the best solution if you need to get lots

Just watch out for poorly made cables that can't take any kind of bending or strain, prove to commonly come wired with reversed polarity (bad QC?), or are prone to breaking or going to shit quickly. Mostly all else is equal. The only real end user benefit to most cable hype is conductivity and some material's ability to not corrode as quickly, which usually never is a problem with anything other than dirt cheap cables. Or, make your own. Knowing how to properly store/wrap your cables is probably more important than brand. In addition to what has already been said by others.

even if the whole cable core was gold, you'd need some solder at the joins, at that's going to be the weak point in the chain

not if you use gold solder

as for the OP you could check out lava cables they have a varity of choices (various brands and lengths) if you don't want to make your own.

isnt the point of having gold plated connections to give a loose connection the best possible connectivity?
and one which doesnt corrode? (imagine a copper connection which looks green like the statue of liberty)
its not about wire-resistance, just about lasting connectivity, i think.
gold is inert.

Canare cables, and Neutrik connectors, soldering them myself, are my choices for cables.

Mogami and Belden are also good choices for cables.

I don't think you need any gold plated audiophile wank.

I just use Hosa cables - cheap, and not really a noticeable difference to me.
All mine are 6" at most, though.

I've just started buying Mogami from the dudes at Pro Audio LA and will say I'm well impressed.

You get custom built cords of any length, cable, color, connector, ring color, etc. The stuff comes supple as hell, brand new and looks awesome. SOUND is remarkable. As opposed to buying a 6 or 10 ft. Mogami gold from GC (spending 50-60 bucks)... you'll pay around 30 and get way more options.

I have several early 80s synths i.e. Yamaha CS01/Casio MT-40/45/etc.... the former was being especially noisy going through my Duet 2. These all have unbalanced outputs (RCA for the Casios and TR-only on the Yama).

I built a couple 8 footers recently (TR to TRS balanced and RCA to TRS balanced) with Mogami 2534 with gold Neutriks. I could not be happier and frankly have a new respect for the power of cable. HOSA BLOWS. Especially my CS01, which I contemplated selling for a moment-- the sound is so much stronger and more dynamic... the noise is GONE and I'm doing hardly any post processing in Logic because the sound is that much more useable. From now on I'm going to take extra amazing care of ALL my cables-- no more hard coiling around my arm after gigs.
