For my fellow scratch nerds w/ Rane mixers, zero resistance

A friend of mine came over and showed me how to remove a resistance spring from the crossfader that makes the sh!t "smooth as a crisco oil" .

1st off, if you can't remove your faceplate and get the fader out do not attempt this !

Pic 1 : How the OG fader looks when you 1st take it out :



Pic 2 : Remove the side of rail mechanism shown here (watch out for that rubber ring) , and slide the the spring off



Pic 3 : This is what it should look like when you pull it off :



Pic 4 : This is what it looks like before you screw the other end back on .



Apply some WD-40 to a rag and lube the rails before you put the fader back in and enjoy .

These are pretty vague instructions but if you've been around enough mixers it's really an easy operation .

Nice tip! I know you specifically said Rane mixers but curiosity got the better of me so I checked out the fader on my Stanton mixer. No resistance spring as suspected. It has these metal brush-like contacts that are given resistance by the pcb pressed up against them. Oh well, worth a shot

I wouldn't use WD as a lube since it dries eventually. Grease would probably be better, maybe dielectric grease?

i used to buy fader lube (no homo) but wd40 nowadays seems fine.

you took the gold spring off? what does it do? is it easy to get off?

Yeah, I removed the gold spring . What the spring does is add resistance to the fader to keep it a little tighter but once I removed it I can flick that puppy and it will slide to the other side and bounce back, you could blow on it and it goes to the other side . All you need to do it is a screwdriver and a steady hand .
