This thread is seeking forward to gather people around the subject of Good/efficient DAW-MPC 3000 combinations.

I've searched all over the place to find valuable info on how i should go about using my 3k in conjunction with my laptop (macbook pro) once i get it back (its currently being repaired at Forat's)... however, the info seems limited and i truly think it would be a good idea to gather it somewhere... could help a bunch of us..

in this post ill describe the questioning im going thru at the moment.. and the goal of this thread... after which ill post my silly questions...

The idea behind the thread is simple : mpc 3000s are kinda gettin' older... against them, modern ITB bedroom studios seem to offer a lot of possibilities...

so.. 3ks have something unique and will never fade in my very opinion... (and im sure most of u share it).. yet, sometimes, they seem less easy to integrate to nowadays musicians workflows (who are now evolving in a world where daws can (almost) emulate full fledged hardware studios)...

i thus wish us to gather a maximum of knowledge on the matter, so that it may help one to find the optimal spot for their akai 3k in a daw-inclusive environment.. amen.

now, this subject seems to be splittable in two sub-subjects.. audio and midi...

AUDIO?

As far as i'm concerned, ive read a lot about audio communication between the sampler and the computer, and there are very valuable threads about good and not so good interfaces and also about the more esoteric stuff, like those mpc-pad-and-programs editing applications for the computer... for these reasons, i won't add to that first sub-subject in this initial post...

however, if u wish to add to the conversation by sharing something quite interesting about the matter of audio transfer between 3k/daw (eg: using two zip drives effectively to go from cpu to mpc or something tricky and cool like that..) ur more then welcome!!

.... this being said.. let me now stress the fact that my main concerns are directed towards MIDI-related behaviour..

MIDI!

As far as the issue goes... I'm mainly concerned about MIDI-sync'ing problems described with certain DAWs... however... again, as i stated earlier, any valuable piece of information about DAW+3k workflow improvements is welcome, be it audio, physical configuration of workspace, mpc modification, etc...

Logic :

The issue i will address is somewhat of an isolated case (mine, im a conceited little ****)... however, i c it as an initial setting, that gave me the idea for this thread... and that may help to start the sharing about 3ks finding their place in modern environments...

Ever since im on a Mac, Ive been using Logic. According to a couple of sources, logic has a very ugly go at syncing with the mpc3000 midiwise.

Here's two threads on the subject :

/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=106571

http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1821298

I also watched sflogicninja's video on the subject... he didnt go quite into details... but heres the video anyways :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q87DPWFanDU

its mostly basic information between MTC vs Beat..

Heres another interesting thing i stumbled upon while searching...

http://www.innerclocksystems.com/New%20ICS%20Questions.html

but being so noobish i dont know how it may help me in a situation where i have an mpc3000 / a macbook pro / a firewire interface.

Again, Im really keen about the idea of an actually detailed thread about the subject and i feel its important that this type of knowledge is shared, in order to make that classic piece of equipment shine even in todays most modern ITB softstudios..

so if u have anything to share about your experience of 3k in the modern world... share it !

1. I did read all of the previous post, that deserves a round of applause (thank you, thank you)

2. Despite reading it twice I was unable to find a question, or a question mark.

3. So you have an MPC3000 and a Macbook Pro, count yourself lucky.

The bottom line is this.

People have been making beats with MPC's since '88 when the MPC60 came out.

The MPC4000 was the first model to feature USB, that was in 2002.

The MPC1000 was the first model to use CF cards, that was in 2004.

The following models had neither USB of CF cards implemented in their design.

MPC60 1988
MPC60 MKII 1991
MPC3000 1994
MPC2000 1997
MPC2000XL 2000
MPC3000LE 2000

Users of these machines are plentiful, somehow they all manage to use them with DAW software and an interface. Some may have 8 outs as standard/ options others wont, others have digital I/O as standard/ options while others don't.

Now it is 2011, and your question is??

You need help, advice, suggestions??

Make it clear otherwise this thread is going nowhere, there is a subforum full of MPC3000 talk.

im pretty much aware of the nature of this subforum...

i really only just wanted to know how people connect their mpc 3000 to their daw midiwise...

do most people sync it to the daw, or the other way around... i really dont get whats so obnoxious about my post...

the very vague nature of the post comes from two things :

- the lack of info found when googling mpc 3000 and any daw... that talks about midi syncing and trust me ive searched
- my will to switch from logic to any other daw if someone displays a functional setup and wishes to share their way of achieving it with me...

im thinking of a synclock these days

i think its better if you say what you want to do exactly first

its kinda broad what you posted..

if its syncing you want, im pretty sure you can find a thread of syncing 3000 or any mpc to anything
else be it a daw or another piece of hardware

Four midi outs from the 3000 go to your midi interface/ DAW to trigger external instruments or virtual instruments.

Use the stereo outs as needed, use the individual outs as needed, use the SPDIF digital I/O as needed.

Syncing your 3000 with a DAW is not always necessary.

Using the 3000 in a studio is no different from using any other MPC in the studio.

You just gotta find what works for you, depending on how you want to sequence and record.

Check out the 60/ 3000 bible.

Or you could try to follow my tutorial on using Logic Pro with your MPC.

What firewire interface do you have?

What I/O does it have on board (audio, midi, digital etc)??
