mpc 2000xl and a synth...

yo what up mpc forums..

i was just wondering how all u guys who use synths with ur mpc's use the two together. i figure theres prolly 3 legit ways to do this...

1. connect the mpc and the synth via midi and trigger the sound u have loaded up in ur synth with the mpc pads (with auto chromatic mode).

2. sample the sound u want from ur synth into the mpc and trigger the sound that way (whether it be 16 levels or auto chromatic).

3. and three...track out ur beat to pro tools (or any other daw for that matter) and then sync up your synth with pro tools and record your synth sounds that way (over ur tracked out beat).

am i missing something or is this exactly the ways u would incorporate a synth with an mpc? cuz im thinking of getting a synth a lil down the road, so i fiured id post.

Thats pretty much it. Other uses would be to use the MPC to back up/load synth patches. And (of course) use the keys to play MPC programs.

So there's no way u can use the synth KEYs if ur using both the synth and the mpc simultaneously? Like if u have them both synced via midi u can only control the synth sounds with the mpc Pads correct?

So really the best way to use both would be to track out the beat (from ur mpc) and then just record your synth over the beat in pro tools or whatever recorder/daw u use...right? So that u can actually use the synths keys

i do it by sampling my playing the synth into the machine .. probably the dumbest / hardest way to do it but it's just kind of how i learned ..

Incorrect. You can record your drum pattern on 1 MIDI channel (or how ever many you need)... then switch channels and record the synth part.... then switch channels and record another synth part, and so on and so forth. You don't have to track anything out until you run out of MIDI channels. A channel is a channel... doesn't matter if you use pads or keys.

cuz the previous poster made it sound like u can only trigger the mpc with the synth keys and the synth with the mpc pads...

This is a beat video I did a while back. This is %100 MPC and synth modules. Nothing was tracked (ever, never even recorded it.) All MIDI into the MPC.

Both even have vocals. Just to show a couple examples of what can be done with MIDI before you even get to tracking out to a DAW.

In short... the keys/pads will play a MIDI channel. It's interchangeable.
