Hey All
Am searching for a cheap synth on my stay in the US. Budget is $300, searching for a unit with nice pads.
Cheers

The Akai Miniak is in that price range. I had it for a few weeks but I didn't like it, it's awful to program and I don't love the sound. But it has nice pads so maybe you would like it?

i like the micron (same as the miniak and ion). You can get it for $200. Also look at the Novation A-Station, Xiosynth, and X-Station. They all can be had used for under $300. DSI MoPho is a good option if you have a sampler to pair it with, since its monophonic.

If you want an all-around synth, you can get a Roland JV-2080/1080 or XV-5050/2020. Or a Korg x50/Micro-X. Korgs have nice pads.

i'd get a roland jv2080 or a yamaha motif rack or ex5r before I got a korg tr rack, but that's just me. I don't really like korg's sound.

I am avoiding the E-mu range, had them and they were cool (much better sounding in hardware, than in soundfont)

I never looked into the JV series - I'll dive in and see how it is, it doesnt have the any fantom sounds on it does it?

From what I understand, there are some jv-era samples that are in the fantom x. Sound presets, I'm not sure. I know the xp/xv series (which came after the jv but before the fantom x) has some sounds from the jv series. Matter of fact you might be able to get an xv-5050 in your price range, and you'd certainly be able to get an xv-2020 for under $300

There is also the JV 1010.It's cheaper than the 1080 or 2080. Same sounds as the 1080 I think. But you need a computer if you want to edit the presets.
