running gear off marine battery?

Has anybody ever run there gear off a marine batteries I am just wondering how much that would cost to set up something like that?

Wouldn't you need a gas engine running and an alternator to keep it powered up? Else you are gonna be replacing batteries pretty often and I doubt they are cheap.

Side note: Orbital's 'The Girl with the sun in her head' was recorded off of, what, solar power all stored up in a van, or something to that effect.

Hey Gilligan... Get a good power conditioner coupled with a surge protector.

Unless you plan on using a DC/AC converter. Plus like nog said, you're going to need something to keep the batteries charged at all times.

I use to use a DC/AC converter in the work van I drove when I did mobile service work. It def gets the job done.

If you are electrically saavy, you can wire up a couple solar panels and cop a converter

Then run power into the marine batteries. The cop a dc/ac transformer and install that **** and your lab now has free power.

Ive been thinking about doing this for a year, could save loads of $ in power over time.

i have a magazine somewhere with an article on off the grid studios. guy was running via batteries and solar.
his advice was - find a surplus military inverter (i think that's the right term). that seemed to be the most important part of the power chain.

Ive made tons of music on boats and vans ectect using deep cycle (marine batterys).Youl need a sinewave inverter unless you using 12volt.Works great until the battery runs low and you hear a horrible high pitched warning sound.Obviously you have some kind of charging system.Anyways,back in 98?i was living in my boat (free rent lol)anchored in false creek,downtown vancouver,and purchased locally a ensoniq asrx new(Rather than the new akaimpc2000)and powered that with an amp and speakers ect.Deisel engine was charging the batterys but i always run out of power unfortunatly.My advise,choose gear that runs off 12 volt.(mpc 500,boss.....)When i arrive home to my boat(im in Delhi now)im gonna instal solarpanels and maybe a wind generator.People say that because the energy is cleaner your sound is more pure.Probably pull in a few more listeners as well and that can only be good.PeAcE
