USB Turntables

Hey everyone. My boy just gave me all his 90s hip hop vinyl collection. I don't have a turntable to sample those classic 90s chunky drums hits. I was thinking of getting one of those USB turntables to have a nice, simple way of sampling the vinyl into my computer.

Does anyone use one of these at all? I obviously need the analogue to digital conversion to be top notch.

Can anyone help at all?

Once I go through them all I plan to share all the drum hits with everyone as a way of saying thank you for everyones help over the years

Most of those type of turntables include software to record vinyl tunes into your PC.

Its brainless, just install the software, then plug the TT into your comp and record. Once vinyl meets the digital realm, you can either sample the tunes through the headphone jack or through an audio interface.

Right now on Numark's site, they have the TTi USB turntable for $100 refurbished. I got my TTUSB from there for $50 a few months ago and it is fine.

highly doubt that...your computer soundcard has no preamps, basic ad converters, noisy as hell, cheap as hell, poor physical location...
USB itself doesn't change the audio, it's simply a transport mechanism. For example the Apogee Duet is a killer audio interface, and probably beats any computer soundcard out there.

The A/D converters in USB TT are not high end or "top notch, which is what Metro williams is looking for. The A/D converters are more of an afterthought. Most companies will throw in the cheapest they can find to cut cost and appeal to the mass market. Also, most USB TT have line out. So there is no need for a Preamp.

I have "worked" with several models of USB TT, each of them had bad sound quality via the USB.

seems that for most part those usb tts come with ceramic cartridge which would explain loss in sound quality..do you know what type of cartridge was on tt's you've had experience with ?


there is some cool usb tt's out there I wasnt even aware of, some got built in cd burner and hard disk to automatically burn to cd...with that kinda toy having your entire vinyl colletion on your mpc's hard disk should be a breeze..

I agree with you on that second post you made, that the signal coming out of a USB turntable is probably not the best you can get.
But that's totally unrelated to what you said earlier, that I disagree with.

Most optimal set up would be a legit turntable, a legit preamp, and a legit soundcard...NOT your computer's internal soundcard.
Then again, convenience in these matters is worth something. So I'm not ragging on these usb tables...I'm sure they are sufficient for lots of people.
