Avid MBOX 3 Question

Hey guys, new to the forum, just bought an mpc 2500, and a novation midi keyboard controller as well as an Avid Mbox 3 the 4x4 one (mid level).

I had a question before i opened the Mbox 3. I purchased it in order to hook up my mpc 2500 to it, as well as my novation midi keyboard. I wanted the novation midi keyboard to be used as a controller for Reason, and then the mpc 2500 to be recorded onto Reason as well.

My question is "Is the Avid Mbox 3 the correct thing i purchased in order to do what i mentioned above?"

no problem i already got it, returned the mbox 3, was a waste of money for the setup i needed done.

damn, i talked to sweetwater.com and they said that for the setup im trying to do i could do the same thing for a $120 midi box, which is what i purchased in order to save money, especially if both do the same thing

i havent sent the mbox back yet, anyone know how it would be setup, maybe ill keep it as i can use it for vocal recording as well since it has phantom power

The truth of the matter is simple.

Any mbox with midi ports will do what you wanted, lots of people here use or have used an mbox with their MPC's.

The setup is a pretty standard affair too, some effort/ searching on your part will reveal how easy it is.

One more thing...never ask a salesman for advice.

if you wanted to record your sounds from your mpc to reason (i dont know if reason does this) then you will need something with actual audio inputs, instead of just midi inputs.

you cannont get the sounds to your DAW (in this case reason) without going from the outs of your mpc to the ins of the audio interface (your mbox 3)

the midi would link up just fine but as midi is not audio, you cannot actually record the sounds from your mpc to your daw, you can just trigger the sounds in reason with it.

another reason i would keep the mbox, or at least something to think about would be, what if you made an entire beat with the mpc?

now without your audio ouputs you would be kinda screwed (although there is some work arounds) if you wanted to multitrack your beat to another daw (again i dont think reason can record actual audio into it like most DAWs) you should keep the mbox because then you can play each track separately and record them strait into your computer with that interface.

if your not doing this though you can disregard whatever i said.
