S950HxC

Hi,

I am the guy of the HXC-Forum who tested the Floppy Emulator in his S950. Now its fully integrated:




I'd like to make a video but I don't have the time.

Big thanks to my Brother and Dad for cutting a perfect hole into the front of my 950 and for building that nice front panel for the display and buttons (It really looks like factory build).

Reading and Writing to a floppy image works but there's a problem with changing the floppy image while the 950 is running. So there's some work to do

I couldn't find your post on the hxc forum... mebee shudda looked harder.

Getting the hole cut properly seems a major task. It looks nice and straight.
I look fwd to hearing about you fixing the floppy change problem. I tend to get sounds from different floppies as I make a new tune, so I kinda need that functionality.

Yes it is. The SD-Card is peeking out below the buttons.

The emulator should be able to simulate DD floppys. I use the emulator with a custom generated floppy image (created with the software tool that comes with emulator). I didn't try to use images of real floppies.

No it doesn't freeze. On pressing the DISK button, the disk is shown as unformatted.

Absolutely beautiful mod. Well done. Those look like the buttons off an sk-1.

I use the HxC to emulate DD disks.

The problem you are having sounds strange...could it be your disk image is not created correctly?

What happens if you load up the image, it says unformatted, so you format it, and then make copies of THAT new image?

Would that work?

Maybe this is a dumb question, but are you sure the images are of a formatted disk?

I don't think the floppy images are wrong. Selecting a floppy image directly after switching the s950 on is working perfectly, but if I switch to another image afterwards (or re-select the same one) its shown as unformatted in the DISK menu.

It's really cool to have reliable storage for the S950. Maybe someone can test the floppy emulator in an MPC60. The SP1200 is already supported!

good job. did you use a punch to make that hole?

My borther said he taped the panel with duct tape to protect the paint, used an electric jigsaw with a blade suitable for metal and a file for the finishing. He's a mechanical engineer and unable to work inaccurately

By the way... hot swapping of floppy images is working now. The jumper setting were wrong.

Great news!!!! Thanks for the info about the duct tape. I'm thinkin about doin the same but I'm a bit afraid to ruin the panel.
