Sp303/MPC 500 dilemna

Yo what up...been gone for awhile. but im back with a nooby question for some of you before i go buy some sh1t i dont need.

Ok, so I've been using the Sp 303 for awhile now with my MPC500, and its been pretty time consuming. because everytime i want to add a new effect from the 303 to different sounds on my 500, i have to do this individually (usually i have to make the whole beat, then mute each track one by one to add different effects). So lets say I want to add both reverb AND compression from the 303 to my drums, how would i do this without having the reverb/compression apply to all my other tracks (hat, snare, sample, bass, and so on)

Right now i have a Mackie u420 4 channel

MPC500-------------------->Ch1 mixer
Sp303 in------------------->Aux out mixer
Sp303 wet signal out------>Ch 3 mixer

Man,...this would be a whole lot simpler if you had a DAW. Have you considered Reaper?

well, I have Cubase, but I've never even messed with it for 5 minutes. I do most of my recording and other FX with SoundForge, but I really dislike using software and/or plugins, im trying to go hardware route 100% if at all possible, besides recording for final mixout, into Sound forge or w/e

I was thinking I could cop a MPC 2000Xl with the 8 outs or a MPC 1000 with the 4 extra outs, which i think it has, if either of those would fix this situation. Im bout ready to upgrade from the 500 anyways...

I understand and there's nothing wrong with a all hardware set up. Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.

all hardware is cool and i respect the nostalgia BUT as someone else already stated i think you could really benifit from either utlizing that cubase you have or getting reaper and using that in the mixing stages.

In this day and age you should prolly become comfortable with atleast one DAW to help enhance ur productivity...

can you resample with the 500?
i use external effects pedals, eqs and compressors all the time on the 1000. it's simple and very quick to resample either a single hit or a few bars.

yea man, the 500 can resample its main outs.

i mean i've been using daws up to this point, thats kinda why im wanting this change. im basically making the beat "dry" and then record into sound forge and then thats where i've been doing all my effects like compression and reverb. i've just never really like the idea of using the built in effects that the mpc has...i dont know why.

i've just been researching ways to be able to apply different effects to seperate sounds in realtime, instead of having to wait until everythings recorded in.

I was the same way.....didn't really care for the Mpc effects or compression. That's the good part about the DAW you can record your dry tracks individually and add insert effects and compression to your liking. Not to mention you can do things like side chaining and parallel compression....and to my knowledge both of these techniques are virtually impossible to do without some sort of tracking gear... and when you compare what it would cost to experiment with parallel compression on a all hardware set-up VS a DAW like Pro tools or Reaper it becomes clear why so many people opt to go software. With software I can have a compressor on every track if need be.

i'm not talking about resampling with the mpc's internal effects. i'm talking about sending a signal from the mpc to an external effects unit, then from external effects to record in on the mpc.

Case in point! Enough reason to sway any novice user into going a more logical and effective route.

i feel what you are saying. i agree daw can accomplish what you need. but for me, making drums bang for me is creative as much as its technical, so i have hard time interrupting the flow by having to insert a daw into the equation while creating, but of course i dont think i hve my daw tightly integrated into my workflow- im not using it while creating. if you know what i mean.

how about midi sync, triggering the sp303 sounds from the mpc (using sp303 like sound module). then when its ready, dump those sounds into the mpc. if you need to add more effects to a particular sound in sp303, just resample it while inside 303.

but keep all the sounds inside 303 until you ready to track, then dump into mpc then track. maybe??!!!!
