2kxl pro tools question

im lookin to cop pro tools for my setup, theres so many options and different versions of pro tools. i was just wondering what u guys think is the best option to go with. i read pro tools 9 is the only version that can use external interfaces. i already have a tascam us144, which im not completely happy with so im up for coppin a new interface as well...any input and help would be great, thanks.

i dont fully understand what the differences are between the versions labeled "pro tools LE" and the one that is simply labeled "Pro Tools". and sense pro tools 9 can use different interfaces should i still look to get a digidesign or m powered package or are there any interfaces in the same price range u guys would suggest over these brands.

its a lot of money for me to invest in things like this, so i figured id get some input.

current setup:
- mpc2000xl
- technics 1200
- mackie 8 channel board
- american audio dj mixer
- tascam 144 interface
- rokit monitors
- crap dell computer (gonna get a mac shortly, actually planning on gettin the mac before i get pro tools)

m audio fasttrack pro or the next step up, ultra?

well neway, those work with protools 9

dont really know too much more since i use fls9

get a presonus firestudio mobile. shit is pretty solid. metal body, 8 trs inputs and spdif digital input. small, firewire and just ill. comes with decent daw too. http://www.presonus.com/products/Detail ... oductId=58

u sayin thatd be good with pro tools 9? or are u suggesting i get that alone and use that daw that comes with it?

If you already have an interface (the tascam) just download reaper or audacity, theyre free(ish) and do the same job as pro tools

Don't do that. Yo the Presonus joint would be good with Pro Tools. PT is a beast of it's own, no matter what people say. I went 7 years thinking Fugk PT becasue you use to have to use the interface but with PT 9 that's not the case. Presonus makes some good interfaces, pres. I'm sure that will work fine with PT 9.

it would be funny if avid made pro tools 10 back to requiring their interfaces again... hahaha, totally screw over people who bought stuff other then the digis.. etc

Lol, I went through the same thing, then got my PT8 certification. If this dudes starting out, let him learn the basics first on the gear he has, it will get the job done for now. Everything you do in reaper, audacity translates over when you pay to get into PT.

(And presonus and tascam interfaces are mediocre at best, pres are garbage.)
