whats up man.....i at one point was in your position. I got sick of the mophatt sounds, some of them are retarded arent they?
Anyways, ive owned mine for about 2 years. I started sampling more when i got sick of the sounds.....once i started sampling i realized what i could do with some of the mophatt features that i didnt look at before....like the filters; yeah i messed with them, but i really never "sound designed" with them. I think if you really use them youll like it more because youc an mangle some sounds. IVE also got a triton. I will always use the mphatt for its bass sounds.....they are by far the best straight out of the box...better than the triton i think. I also think that the quality of the mophatt is good...its got more of a sample feel to it, which i like.
At first i never really payed too much attention to the "quality"of the sounds on my triton and mophatt, but now, i notice that the triton is thinner, even with beefed up effects, its thin-kind of hard to explain, but straight sample wise, the mophatt is warmer and "thicker".....so this is why i like it.......Even though i pump out some synthish sounds, it still doesnt sound cheesey, like my triton sometimes does ya know?
Im not sure if the 5050 will be like that, but Since there are some cheap expansion cards, youll probably spend less then if you sell your mophatt. I personally think i got sick of it because i abused its sounds, i used them for all my sounds, but if you get a good mix going you might enjoy it better...like sample your drums, use it for bass, and get an expansion card.
I think the major problem with it is that it isnt a BREAD AND BUTTER, you gotta add expansion cards, otherwise youll hate it.....SInce i have the triton for my keys, it kind of spreads things out, and my beats dont sound like they come from one synth.....but i think that a EMU expansion cards are great, because they add a whole new element.
THe vintage keys sounds nice, ive listened to it at the store...anyways, since it has alot of "analog samples" from old skool synths, it will compliment the mophatt card nice. Plus with the filters, you can make those synth sounds into whatever you want. THe warmth of th emu makes them nice. BUt i like this card because its got all those analog synths that i want to buy, but cant afford. I like the proteous pop, but with the mophatt, i dont think youwant more drums and bass. I am also looking at the orchestral ones, but havent had a chance to try them.
But i decided to keep it because resale sucks, but mainly because i realized that i liked using it with the filters. I eventually purcahsed the PX7 because i wanted a sequencer with the emu sounds. Now im saving for an expansion card.....probably the vintage keys, and the proteous pop. The PX7 sounds (drum expansion) arent worth it, because all it is are drums, ive got too many drum sounds and i need more instruments.
BTW. the emu has better filters than the triton.....I only like the triton for layering and effects. I rarely use the triotn filter whereas the emu i use on every single sound in some way or another.....it sounds crazy, but i like the emu sounds better than the tritons. But i like the features on the triton so thats why i keep it. BUt the emu doesnt sound cheesey at all, and all the sounds mix well.
