Need Help Hooking my MPC up to my PC thru the Joystick Port

I have a MIDI cable that attatches to the Joystick / Gampad port on my soundcard, I want to play my MPC 4000 &/or Keyboard into my PC, I have all the cables connected correctly, but nothing happens when I play my keyboard in Cubase.

I built the PC my self 3 years ago so Im guessing I need some sort of drivers or codecs that i never installed??? I dont know what to do, Help, Thanks

I would definetly check with your computer first.....you might need some drivers installed...!

Are you using a pc?
Win xp or 98?
What soundcard?
How have you set up Cubase?

Windows XP, Aopen motherboard with intergrated soundcard, Athalon 1.4 GHZ Tbird. Generic Midi to Joystick cable (came with no software). When I go into cubase and try to select MIDI Input it shows now device, but for OUTPUT it shows both MIDI Mapper or and Microsoft SW emulator or something like that.

Are those the only two MIDI options you get? Then you either need drivers, or your m/board can't do it. We know the Sound Blaster cards did MIDI on the joystick port, but can you confirm that Aopen's m/boards do that? (Maybe you checked already, but we gotta ask!) Check for specs and drivers on http://www.aopen.com.tw/

The cable needs no drivers itself, it's just a little voltage convertor circuit and cables.

I thought that Midi trough the joystick port was something that has been done since the beginning of (computer) time?? I dont go back that far with computers but i just figured it was like floppy disks, always been around always will, I must be wrong.

No i havent checked the specs on the Aopen Mobo, i figured its a generic soundcard anyway, now that i think about it, i think there was some sort of software that came along with the Mobo for the soundcard... but i never even bothered to open it because I use an external USB sound card from Roland/Edirol to listen to music.

I'll have to search around for that tonight, but i proably threw it out awhile ago.


Hey ieism, whats the program for, I wasnt able to download it, comp was slugish that day. It looks like some sort of soft snyth thingy??? how will that help my comp recognize my keyboard & MPC, Ill try to DL it again though.

The first link is simply a plugin for cubase to see what's going on with your midi.

The second link is some complicated midiconverter filter thing. But it will also convert a gameport, or even a mouse to a midiinput. I haven't used it, but i read about it in some magazine, thought it might help you out.

Hey Ieism i tried installing that minidconvter program and my screen when black and displayed a message that said....


"IF YOUR COMPUTER STOPS RESPONDING (WHICH IT HAS IF YOU CAN READ THIS) THEN IT (CTRL)+(ALT)+(DEL) TO RE-START YOUR COMPUTER"

I tried hitting cntrl alt del several times and nothing happened, Then my computer finally pulled out of it on its own. I dodged a bullet

Im just going to go ahead and by one of thoese MIDI sport usb chumppies (how come no one uses the word chumppy any more?) but thinks for all you's guys help.
