Roger Linn wins a 2011 Technical Grammy

No mention of the MPC, his relationship with Akai leaves little to the imagination.

He didn't earn this due to Andrenalinn products thats for sure.

Check again dude, he acknowledges the software engineers at about 2:20 for the MPCs.

Anyway, good post. It's nice to see him get recognition on this scale. We all have a personal debt to him in some way or another. Even if we're no longer MPC users, there's no doubt we're inspired by music made on machines he designed or pioneered somewhere along the road.

Good work Mr Linn, and hot wife Ingrid. Fingers crossed for the LinnDrum 2 coming ASAP.

Odd that he mentions a move back to more traditional "musicality" over "loop 'n' beats"... a little bit condescending to those that have made his products a success I feel.

I doubt he's ever claimed to be a big Hip Hop fan... he is a live musician though, and I suspect guitars are his real passion.

I bet hes sick to death hearing about boomchick.I mean its gonna be totally impossible for him to fullfill the expecttions of the people.Hardware has hit a brickwall im afraid.I feel that even the Tempest is kinda doomed(i hope not and would like to get one but will have to hear a good demo first).I bet hed love to just dissapear with his wife to a desert island with his guitar and maybe take his adrenalinne fx pedal.Deffinately not his mpc edit-Anyway props to da man Roger (mpc) Linn....

Yeah...its hard to believe Roger Linn earned a Grammy for any of his new products.

No mention of Akai or the Forat brothers.? Folks here tend to forget the contributions of the Forat brothers to the advancement of sampling drum machines.

Yep, things must have gone really bad at Akai. I wonder what happened...? Did they jack his ideas for the 2000 or something?

They didn't want to pay him royalties any more after the success of the 60 and 3000, so he was cut loose.

They came to an agreement later to produce the 3000LE in limited numbers, not because it was so special but because Roger needed the money at the time to develop new products.

Roger dont like Akai, they took his design and milked it.

The Akai Roger dealt with no longer exists as the brand was bought out 2000/2001, the 4000 was the last model they produced.

Good speech & well deserved recognition and yes, he did thank the engineers for the MPC-products among others

Since 1982, Bruce and Ben Forat have provided the entertainment community with first-class music electronics while working at Linn. Then in 1986 Forat Electronics Corporation was born after purchasing Linn's remaining assets and have since been providing sounds, service, parts, and modifications for all Linn Electronics products. There are over 8000 Forat Electronics F-9000s and F-16s in use today around the world. These guys have literally been making hits since 1982. That's over 21 years of consistent service on the behalf of their many clients all over the globe.

Maybe not when you consider the groundbreaking efforts of past winners of the award.

Forat built upon the original work of Roger Linn and are more well known for servicing and gear mods IMHO.

I was speaking in terms of a shout out. Forat (having worked at Linn) didn't have anything to do with the design of the Linn 9000, the precursor to the MPC 60?

Really thinking about getting his new drum machine. The Youtube vids I seen doesn't do it justice although I know its potential already.

I think it's a great tool, been using AD III on guitars, organs, analog synths, drum machines... the filter/flanger/trem sequences and the low-gain amp simulations especially work nicely. And I can control most of its functions off my MPC. As a guitar fx system, it is totally unique.

... still, I'm waiting for this version of LinnDrum II to become reality:
