interface for pro tools and mpc...

im gonna cop pro tools 9 next month and was wondering what interface you guys suggest to use with it. I understand that pro tools can now use interfaces that arent just m powered or digidesign, so the options are endless. Id like to get an interface thats easy to use with pro tools. Preferbly around the $300 range, unless i have to pay more. Or if i can pay less for a good interface then im cool with that.

ill mainly be using pro tools to track out my beats from my mp2000xl and further mix my tracks, maybe add some more sounds from pro tools.

what do you guys suggest? any hel[p would be highly highly appreciated. I dont know much about pro tools or interfaces. ive been using a tascam 144 with audacity to 2 track my beats out (just mix best i can in the mpc)...iim looking to upgrade and really get to know pro tools...

You're looking at an Mbox Mini, Fast Track C400, Fast Track Pro, FireWire Solo, Focusrite Scarlett 8i6, etc. You just need to decide what you need and if something in your price range meets those needs; ie, number of ins and outs, midi capability, firewire or USB, etc. Here's a bunch of interfaces in the $200-300 range. There's a lot more out there that's available than what's listed here. Any of them will work:

Also, you might as well get Pro Tools 10 now. It's the same price as 9 and it's better!

hustle up $200.00 more dollars and get a used digi002.

well i own a mac and ive read a bit on pro tools, like reviews and things of that nature. Ive watched videos of people synching their mpcs via midi and tracking out. it seemed to be smooth. And seeing as its the "industry standard" i think its a good idea to get to know the software.

i spent some time last summer in a nice studio in albany, ny, where i got to just chill and observe the engineers mixing peoples music, the studio ran off pro tools...

is there a reason u have that i shouldnt be getting pro tools? or any other softwares that u recommend over it?

nah, i mean those are all good enough reasons for you to want to buy PT. it's especially good that you got to see it used in a studio by actual engineers.

my issue is that protools is unnecessarily expensive for a personal home studio. the industry standard argument is a reasonable one, but only if your goal is to become an engineer who has to work mixing on other people's music. protools experience is NOT essential at any step of the process of becoming a professional musician.

for what it is/what it does, i think they charge waaaay too much for protools compared to other software that does the same thing, sounds the same, and sometimes even has more features...you're paying for a name. this is ok if you're a big studio with a big budget, but i hate seeing people buy PT just because they've been hit by the marketing train. especially when the software is (again, in my opinion) so fundamentally limited.

folks around here laugh when i get going on this, but i feel truly bad for people who want to get involved in digital music production because at every turn they are encouraged to buy super expensive tools...for no good reason. mpc5000! protools! monster cables! these are the best (read-most expensive) things our local Guitar Center can offer, so they MUST be the best. wrong....

i won't name the software i use (otherwise folks may eventually claim i work for them. i do not) but remember to consider your options and not to always trust the hype.

but all that said and there the choice is still yours, nobody is gonna come after you for getting whatever you want.

BTW Nym uses Reaper since version 0.1..and he dont work for them
