Is it alright to record drums as 1 track?

If i went budget style in a soundcard, say with only 1 stereo input, to save time i might send 1 drumtrack as a whole then compress it later, could i trust the mpcs mixing of the hats, snares and kicks together? Do i really lose that much control over mixing later, cause doesnt compression do some magic?(assuming its mixed well enough).
maybe ill just let the mixing get done entirely in the mpc then add some compression after ive recorded some vocals?
ideas?? (yes im an amateur)

yes and no.....more no than yes....it is not alright to record drum track as one...think about it....you have to eq each sound how you want....if you record it as one you will eq the whole track not getting the chance to tweak the hi hats.....or the snare...or your kick might not have enough bottom....you might not wanna bring the bottom out the snare or the hi out of the kick....and your hi hats can suffer severly if they are muffled of brung out to much....and then think about this...if you record them on separate tracks and ****'d up the eq you can aways alter it later......good luck man.....oh and the yeah....it is alright to record drums on one track if you are sampling drums....lol.....real talk

no...the mpc is only a machine......it is the man/woman behind it that works the magic.....compression does some magic....but it is more effective seperatly.....cuz like i said you might not want to do that for all the drums.....compression might make your kick sound shi**y and the snare crisp...or the kick crisp and the snare sh**ty so be careful....but all of it depends on you........good luck
