Hi there guys,

I wonder, does the KP3 have a ducking effect on it? As the Quad version does have the ducking effect, with just a simple button push.

If so, how should I connect the KP3 with my MPC 1000, with the Assignable Mixout or with the Midi In ??

Iam asking this because im considering a purchase of the KP to get a new control over my beats.

Thank you for reading.

I don't understand the question

if you want to send midi from the KP3 to the MPC, use the midi in

if you want to send audio from the MPC to the KP3, use the audio outputs

I would assume you want to send audio from the MPC to the KP3

I had a kaossilator, bought it to sync it up as a slave with the mpc1000, the midi was very bad thought and after 2 mins the unit would loose its sync gradually, i believe the KP3 and the Kpro are basiclly the same thing regarding midi etc, don't know if this will answer you question but i feel it's a good thing to share

Thank you for your answers.

Sorry for being unclear, what I basicly want is to use the KP3 as a extra effect mixer, like the intern EQ from the MPC itself.
And I hope this KP3 has the ducking compression like the Quad, then i'm sold.

The syncing would only be a problem if I ever decide to go live with it, but maybe I have some solutions lol.

If you're mainly getting it for ducking, I'd suggest getting an actual compressor instead. There are 2 compressor FX on the KP3, and IMO neither is very good.

As for syncing, it isn't too tight. It'll eventually get de-synced. But that can be fixed with a quick SHIFT-ALIGN press, which realigns the beat on the KP3. Just hit that every once in a while. Really the only problem I've had with syncing so far is when I've got a sample looped on the KP3. And this really only is a problem when the tempo changes after recording the sample; it doesn't perfectly tune it to match the new tempo, and gets out of sync.
I don't think that anything other than looped samples would be affected by the slight sync issues.

furthermore, who gives a crap about synching when it's effects unless it's bpm effects... and if that is the case, change the kaosspad's internal bpm to the same as the mpc's..

run a set of mix outs (the assignable outs.. lets say outs 3/4) send those to the input of the kaosspad and then in the internal mixer you can turn that up.

what exactly are you talking about "ducking effect" ducking what frequency behind what frequency? ducking what behind what? I am guessing you mean some sort of thing that cuts the highs right after a kick or something?

This is a video of the KP Quad, which shows the ducking compressor: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rr-m4AUXkW0

Imo that sounds good, does this sound just as good on the KP3?

And no, I don't only want to use it for the ducking effect, I really like the other effects aswell, they are appealing to make some alternative hiphop, but the ducking effect is a must have in my work flow tbh.

I thought, why get a compressor if I could get a effect controller which has the most stuff I want for some strange sequences.

ahh, I see what you mean.. I am not sure if the kp3 has that... it is a much older unit. The scratching thing it probably does though but who cares about that.

get the quad though if you really think you will use that machine quite a bit.. plus it is cheaper than the kp3 I believe... then later on go for the beast kp3. those types of things can all be used together... especially for playing live.

Yeah, I'd suggest the quad.

The KP3 seems to have more fx, but most are combos of multiple fx. So basically the same as the quad. The quad probably actually has more freedom in fx combination.

The KP3 is unique in it's audio looper feature. I personally like this, but obviously not necessary if you're just doing fx processing.

I also personally like the red-and-black color scheme, especially the cool LED display on the pad.

the quad lets you use more than one effect at once... that is the feature that sets it apart. The kp3 has I think more effects but not letting you use 4 at once unless you sample and play back through another effect.

OH, and I found out... they have the ducking compressor on the mini kp 2 they just released.
