s950 to MPC 2000 Classic (Midi question)

just bought a s950 but cant seem to figure out the midi channels and what not. what do i need to do on the mpc to get it sync'd? i have a midi cable going from the OUT of the mpc to the IN of the 950. Also, do i need to add or switch any cables around and put some in th eback of the 950 ?...how do i sample vinyl straight into this thing? thanks

so, you have the midi from the mpc to the 950 okay but you still need audio cables going from the outputs on the 950 too.. you could use the single mix out or the L and R.. to sample into the 950 you need your record player or what ever going into the line input on the front of the unit... then go to the sample menu.

i suggest on the 2000 you pick a track you want for triggering the 950 (maybe like track 9 or something out of the way) and under that you will see "DRUM" .. switch that to the right output.

i connected my mixer/turntable to the front of the 950 and selected drum 1 and i am getting signal now...im trying now to get two samples to run at the same time in the mpc with both sampled ran thru the 950. is this possible?..i suppose if i keep playing around with it i will learn more and more but some tips would be appreciated...thanks..i got the 950 only 2 hours ago

well what you need to try and do is, you need to get the 2000's pad's midi note number CC to be the same as the one on the 950.. check the 2000 manual to find out how to do that.

Make Templates for both machines!

Make a template sequence and program for ur mpc and a template program for the s950.

MPC:
Go to program mode. On the 'note' page u see all the notes that correspond with the mpc's pad. Put them in correct order, starting with assigning note C1(36) to pad A1. Continue with c2 for pad A2 and so on. Save these settings (and maybe others) as a template.

Switch all the tracks in the sequencer u want to use from 'Drum' to 'Midi'. Set the midi channel for each track. (mpc 2000 manual)

S950:
Make keygroups. Starting by assigning the first keygroup to note c1(36) till note c1 (36). So when u press pad A1 on the mpc u will trigger keygroup 1. Catch my drift? make as many keygroups as u want.
Each keygroup will be triggered by one particular pad, each keygroup holding one sample with all it's params and settings.
Also note that u have to assign a keygroup to an audio output as well. All the outputs are monophonic, which means that sounds assigned to the same output will cut eachother off when triggered simultaneously. Also assign the corresponding midichannel to each keygroup. Save these settings to a floppy disk as your template.
