i've been looking around at the studio pics and i've been noticing a lot of people have a mixer + something like an Mbox

now i know that the Mbox is for recording, but here are my questions...

Example using the Mackie 1202 + Mbox 2

1) say you have your MPC and keyboard plugged into the Mackie 1202....where would your monitors be plugged into so you can hear what you're playing? the mixer main outs or the Mbox?

2) say you record into your DAW using the Mbox, how do you hear what you recorded and play it back from the PC?

would you plug the monitors into the Mbox instead of the Mackies main outs and then have to leave the Mbox on the whole time you're making music to monitor your setup + whatever you have playing on the PC (ie recording sessions)

Most mixers have monitor out connections, so there's no need to go direct out from the audio interface itself, unless you absolutely have to. And how your favorite audio interface is connected, is usually through tape ins & outs, or via direct channel inputs/outputs and/or sub group I/O.

The purpose of a mixer in general is to allow you to "route" your audio to and from different audio & sound sources.

So with that said, it's more beneficial to have a mixer for monitoring, routing, & bringing a balance to your overall sound.

so basically the monitors would plug into the mixers main outputs and then either run the mixers control room outs or tape outs into the interface...would that be the common way to record what you want into your DAW and still be able to live play/monitor stuff through the mixer main outs?

Hahah I'm not sure if that was a joke or not

RTFM, it's the User Manual from a Mackie mixer.. Almost every mixer will come with something like this
