I own a mpc 2kxl and an Apple iBook. I want to start recording beats onto my computer using Logic. I have been looking into audio interfaces and would appreciate anyone's opinion or experiences.

Although I have heard great things about the Motu 828 it is just too big and too expensive. I really don't need 8 in/outs and I don't need the preamp either. All smaller audio interfaces however seem to use USB. It's not like I dislike USB but I have heard several people say it's hard to set up and I definitely don't want to blow my money on something that won't work properly. The Tascam US-428 really seems to be sweet, not only adding a MIDI interface but also being a remote control. Does anyone own one & run it on a mac? What are the thoughts about USB audio interfaces in general?

No experience with that Tascam US-428. I think you should find out if it works with Logic first. I know e-magic has there own control surface, so i can imagine they won't support that Tascam.

I've got an M-audio Quattro and it works on both mac and pc with no problems. The soundquality is very good, and it's got midi too.
