Looking to build a basic studio setup in a very small bedroom. I just bought a new MB Pro, plan on buying the Ren (been a MPC 2000 owner since 1996) and i have a two turntable setup with a Rane 2 channel DJ mixer. My major workflow will consist of sampling vinyl, recording DJ scratches, remixing, and tradition multitrack beat making. What do you suggest for an interface, recording software, monitor speakers, etc to finish the studio? Would you also suggest another 8 or 16 channel mixer? Any suggestions would help, thanks!

I don't think you need other equipment like mixers or interfaces.

The ren has a stereo input, and a separate turntable input. It has a stereo output, and 2 assignable mono outputs. It has 2 in, 4 out MIDI ports, and a 2 port USB hub. It's a controller, so all these inputs and outputs are interfaced with USB.

Based on your question, it seems that you don't quite understand the point of the ren. It's a controller, so you're really making stuff via a DAW, an akai-made one that comes with the Ren. So a separate mixer isn't helpful, since everything's in software. And you don't need any interfaces, since the ren is just a big fancy interface/controller.

Monitors, you might want them. Other people could give better advice on those than I could. I just use my pair of M50s, no speakers.
