Controlling VSTi's in with the MPC 2000XL

I'm relatively new to the MPC, but not new to making music.

I am heavily indoctrinated into using the computer and my VSTi's and DXi's in my compositions.

Now I have been able to successfully integrate it with my Roland XP-50, Pro Tools and Reason. I am also able to separately and simultaniously control my Roland XP-50 and Reason as a multiple channel midi sources for the MPC.

Here's the problem. Because I wanted to use my plug-in instruments from the computer and have my MPC be in control. I did a search here to find out what you guys do and I found out about using Chainer. I downloaded Chainer and it's a great program. The only problem is the different Midi Channels are mushing together. What I mean is if I play a pattern on one plug-in on channel one on Chainer and Channel one track one of the MPC everything is fine. Once I go to channel two on Chainer and track two channel two on the MPC it plays the pattern that I played on track/channel one and two in the MPC on the plugin on Channel two in Chainer. Thereby disregarding the first plug-in.

My goal is to have many discrete patterns playing various VSTi's. And I'm open to using another software option if it's neccessary.

Anyody have any ideas?

I did some experiments with that, you need Logic or Cubase SX as far as I know (or other software with an input filter/transformer per midi track)

Ieism helped me out on that tip, do a search for his name and nuendo or cubase SX.

I want to preface this post by saying I have 0 real world experience with any of the mpc instruments. With that out of the way, the mpc (as I understand it) can be used to send midi datas out to other midi enabled devices, so that means that if you have a VST host capable of recieving midi input, and forwarding it off to a VSTi (such as nuendo, cubase, logic), then you could setup your mpc in the same fashion. What I would do is look inside of my vsti host of choice, and configure the mpc as a standard controller so that way, when midi output is generated by the mpc, it gets forwarded to your vst.

if u get nuendo 2, this is the way to do it:


1- start nuendo
2- go to file and choose new project then choose empty
3- select the folder you want to save your project to.
4- create a midi track
5- you will see this ( L-> ) above the little @ in the inspector, click( L-> )
6- choose local and a large window will pop up called the input transformer.
7-since this will be channel 1 you will set it like this:
click on add line tab
click on filter target and choose (channel)
in the condition tab choose (unequal)
in the parameter tab choose ( 1) this is going to be channe one.
where it says select module tick (1)
where it says active module tick (1)
where it says mode pick (filter)
now activate monitor button on all midi tracks

NOTE: you must do this to every midi channel.
the only thing that should changed is the (parameter tab)
since this was midi channel one the parameter was set to one.
midi channel 2 will have the parameter set to two and so on.
and if you do all 16 channels save it as a template so you wont have to type it all in again.

Does anyone know how this might work in Logic 4.8?

...would it invove the "environment"?

I can be lazy sometimes... anybody set it up already for logic environment???

Do what Elmacaco said, and search for my name and Cubase sx.
I've posted on this many times, and don't have time to explain it again as it's a very long story.
Bottom line: You don't need chainer if you have Cubase sx, and Reason is not better than Cubase either.
You need to set up a template with as many miditracks as you're ever going to need, and filter out all the channels but one like skizz said.
It takes a while to figure it all out, but once it's working you can save the template and you'll never have to set it up again.
You can play up to 16 different vsti's at the same time this way.

It should be a lot easier in Logic from what i remember. I'm not using Logic anymore so i can't help you out on that one.
