Connecting SP1200+S950+ASR10 via Midi

Yo, got that sp1200 that monday, so i have a question, can i hook up s950 sp and asr together via midi? SP will be the sequencer.

Yes, and I'd think that's better than 1200 -> asr -> 950 .....
Mainly cos the 950 has less jitter and faster midi response times... slower midi devices -> end of chain.
Also try to get os 161 on the asr, for me the midi timing problems and os crashes where much improved when I moved from 353os -> 161

Well the S-950 has 16 midi channels available, and the ASR-10 has 8 midi channels [instruments] available. So you could use the SP1200 to send midi channels 1-16 to the S-950, and from the S-950 use midi thru to send midi channels 9-16 to the ASR-10.

So you get 8 midi channels each for the S-950 (1-8) and ASR-10 (9-16), plus whatever you're rocking in the SP1200 itself. Quite a few audio outputs to manage there so ideally you'll have a decent sized mixer/ audio interface unless you intend to track from the main outs...

You can't record chords via midi into the sp1200 ....
The sp is for drums and short audio phrases... its not a midi production center/mpc.
You could sample your audio phrase/s from the 950 into the sp1200...

Otherwise get an mpc sync it up to the sp....you can have both sequencers running, they work well together... no timing problems...
Or you can record drum patterns on the mpc which trigger the sounds in the sp via midi.. so you can mute drum track via the mpc/have mpc swing on your sp drums.

I use both of these methods, no problems.
