Looking to get some multisample vsts for pianos, strings, violins and regular vsts for basslines etc.

Is notation bass station still worth using?, sorry have been out of the production scene quite sometime now.

Novation Bass Station isn't the first VST I'd reach for, but it's still made and does still sound good.

Because you said '90's and mentioned multisampled acoustic instruments specifically I'm going to recommend checking out these companies.

Digital Sound Factory - http://www.digitalsoundfactory.com/

The owner has official rights to all the old E-MU and Ensoniq stuff. He's a former E-MU sound designer as well. He has all E-MU modules, all the Ensoniq CD-Roms and E-Max sounds. He sells in various formats. Kontakt format used with the free Kontakt player is a good choice (I think the soundfonts don't sound quite as good)

UVI Soundsource - http://www.uvisoundsource.com/

These guys also do tons of retro stuff. Not direct licensed emulations, but amazing (usually 24bit/96khz) sounding sets inspired by classic gear. Very expensive but some of the best sounding stuff on the market.

Those are almost more 80's into the early nineties sounds but I think close to what you may be looking for. For a Triton style throwback VST there's Luxonix Purity - http://www.luxonix.com/home/en/products.html?id=purity

There's probably more things I could recommend but these might work for a start.

Native Instruments (Komplete will cover EVERYTHING you need)

IK Multimedia (sampletank, philamonic orch etc)

These are not free, though NI have a pretty good support.

yeh haha, i knew what he meant though.....and jpeg is spot on, people catch feelings over VSTi's and get secretive about em for some reason.......its funny cos for a little money (haha in Native Instruments case in can be quite costly) everyone gets the same sounds and presets.......

I'm not particularly secretive myself, but the UVI stuff I mentioned to him is kinda related to the topic. It's all super high quality but it all needs an iLok. Just by that fact there are no cracks of the stuff anywhere. So that limits how many other folks have the exact same sounds as you. But yeah we all basically have access to the same materials and it's about what you do with a particular VST or library in the end.

I'm actually surprised how much these companies are selling sound for! Feels like I went back 15 years in time! Good lawd, piano samples for $249?? Don't these sounds come in Garageband/FL/etc? Might not be as sonically pristine, but if you want a vintage sound, make whatever you got work.
Craigslist.com and do a search for Piano (or whatever instrument you want)...bet money someone is giving one away for free! Sample, then sell it for $249. Voila! Original Piano samples....and money in the bank.

Yea, I'm cheap! :)
