mpc and interface inserts....help!!!

Hi guys was hoping anyone would be kind enough to offer any insight in to this problem. I was basically given a maudio fasttrack to try out before buying. everything is fine except the inserts.

when trying to track straight out of the stereo outputs on my mpc drum machine in to the two inserts at the rear of the interface i get no sound, unless the two jacks in the interface are only half way plugged in the inserts. this signal is still very week and just about audible. could anyone offer any suggestions as to what this may be. seems strange that it would be the a fault on the mtrack as the thing hasn't had a lot of use

Are these actual inserts (patch points) or channel inputs? I assume single jack inserts based on the behavior you describe. These are meant to insert a processor into the channel's signal path by interrupting the internal normal (normalled/normalized) connection.

If they are actual single jack inserts you should probably be trying to use the channel inputs instead unless you plan to actually connect something to the other ends and use a Y cable—for instance to process the signal with a compressor or EQ. The inserts are usually used for patching a processor into the channel; it sends the signal out to a device and the device sends it's output back into the channel thus inserting the processed audio into the channel's signal path. For connecting something like a MPC it's usually better to connect directly to one of the designated input channels. Try using the channel inputs marked Ins or Input, instead of the inserts.

There was more to this post but I omitted the rest at the risk that it may be more confusing than helpful. In it I did likely answer the question, in a technical context, as to why you get either no sound or unstable sound as a result of the inserts though, so I will repost it if you actually want that type of info. Or, someone else can elaborate. That level of detail is probably not imperative however.
