I'm not sure if i'm going to switch from FL Studio to MPC Renaissance.

Can you drag and drop sounds from the browser straight onto the pads like in the FPC in FL? Can you hear them while you're browsing over the sounds?
Can you chop up/edit samples by mouse like Slicex in FL?
Is there a declick in/declick out in the sample editor?
Can i drag a sound into the sequencer and play it on a Piano Roll like in FL?
Can i use more than 4 effects VST"s at the same time on each Track in the Mixer? Like in FL you can use 8 effects at once per track.

FL crashes a lot to on my PC so that's not the problem.

Just let me know if i should switch or not and why?

in fl you can send an fx insert track to another and add more fx pluggins than the 8 slots you have... it's pretty much unlimited.

as for it crashing... I dont experience that, maybe you need to switch the version you are running for one that is more appropriate for the computer you are using?

For example, with a maxed pentium 4 PC... I wouldn't use anything higher than fl6 if you want it to run smooth... but you can run all versions including 10... it just wont run well. You may be able to pull off fl7 for a few of the extra features... but 6 will run fine and you can do a 20 fx track project.

however with a multi core cpu system... something more recent... fl9 is okay and runs fine... maybe getting one of the 9.something.somthing ones that updated issues is a smart idea... however fl10 added better multi core support so it makes use of balancing the load across the cpu cores in the 64 bit version a lot better... I think even the 32 bit version addresses some of this... because some people were having some issues with multicore on the first version 9.

as for the ren.. I think waiting to see what the next update does is a good idea. If you are used to using your 8 effects on every sound, and you automate those effects in the playlist.... plus if you are building songs with multiple patterns playing at once (ie: building songs with the patterns on the playlist) .... well maybe you will find the ren a bit underpowered.

Alright, I use about 3 effects per Track. Only on Bass i use about 5 plugins.
I use a standard EQ and standard Compression on every track in my mixer.
Except on Drums and Basslines i use different EQ + Compression settings.

So I can use 4 sends on every mixertrack in the MPC Ren right?

I could live with that though...

What should stop me from buying it?
Would a MPD 32 + FL be better than the MPC Ren?

I mean it can do everything FL can do right except for the mixer only having 4 effectslots per track. I don't like to use extra sends on my mixertracks except for the 4 sends. so that's not a problem for me.
I chop my samples in Slicex in FL. Than i sequence it in the piano roll by mouse.
Than i copy/duplicate the Slicex plugin and route the second Slicex through a Low-Pass Filter in an other Mixer-Track and copy the sequence in it.
Can the MPC Ren do this also?

Can i chop samples by mouse like in Slicex?
Can i draw notes in the piano roll by mouse and copy them in the piano roll?
Can i drag a sound from the browser into the Sequencer and play it on the entire keyboard or can it only play in 16 Levels? only 16 different pitches instead of the whole keyboard?

Dont buy IT. Been using Fl Studio Myself for 6 years, and the change for Ren was the worst decision of my life.

Stick to FL Studio, cop a good controller and youre all good. If you really want this kind of a system though I would definitely recommend Maschine over the Ren any day. (Owned that too for a while).

I never use slice x.. I am still using the wave traveler... it's my favourite sample chopping tool in fl.. mainly because I have been using it since it came out.

drag a song into it and each key can have it's own start point... you can change the pitch... and besides that it has a bunch of warping tools and muting to simulate scratching that would be done if you were scratching a sound but I never use those. I just use it to cut out sections of songs (or classical music pieces) and then I sequence those cuts in piano roll.

watch some ren videos man... there are a lot showing how to chop samples. I dont own the ren, and I dont use slice x or edisson etc.. sometimes I make songs where I use the fruity slicer quite a lot.

Thanks man,

I'm pretty sure now that i'm not gonna buy it.
I found out most MPC users make really simplistic music anyway.
While i like to make add a lot of keyboards in my beats.
But i need a good soundcard still.
I think i'm gonna get a used M-Audio ProjectMix + MPD 32 than.

I wish Akai made a cool new MPD with the LED's etc. like on the Renaissance.
Or even better make a FL Studio controller. I mean it's the most used music software in the world.

If you know FL, then stay with FL. I have a 10 year old FL license myself, great piece of software. It was not for me, but like any modern first string host, you can do just about anything in it.

You are right, most of the tunes you hear made by MPC's is pretty simplistic. But really, you can do just about anything in it as well. I like Maschine and MPC REN because I like the "hands on" feel. I play some keyboards and guitar and I just got tired of holding a mouse. The knobs and pads on a controller feel more "real" to me.

Anyway, I'd say get some kind of controller to use with FL. I think it would be a better fit for you.

actually if he is aiming for a project mix... that would actually be a damn good tool for fl... but I wouldn't bother with the mpd32 if all fader work would be done on the project mix. I would go with something that has keys (pick your favourite keys controller), and maybe the korg pad controller that has the XY kaoss style thing because that could maybe be quite cool using the fruity XY controller.... plus you got pads and I think they have lights which someone above mentioned they liked.

MPD pads are not like mpc pads...

Fl studio is very solid & stable.. Why are u still on 9 ? No lifetime upgrade ? :hmmm:
Even the 10.9 beta is stable. You should check your system and the plugins that you are using

Slicex & Edison are really a deadly combo. Do you have experience with Mpc s ?
Do you like the workflow ? You can do with flstudio everything that you can do with the ren. It s just a different workflow.

one thing that came to mind when reading that is... now in version 10 you need to go into the general options to turn the pattern part of the playlist... I dont like the method of switching between patterns from the drop down at the top if you want to build songs using the tracks at the top.... so, before version 8 or 9 you could place the pattern section on top of the tracks... they eventually removed the option that allows that (even though the first version or two they had it) indicating they wanted to migrate towards the tracks... now it looks like they are trying to phase out the pattern square building... I hope they never remove the option to have it.

I use FL Studio 10.
I learned how to make beats on the Roland MV-8800.
But i went back to FL Studio cause it could do a lot more and was much easier and faster to use with FX and of course Piano Roll sequencing.
I would never in my lifetime go back to the MV-8800 now that i know how to use FL properly.

But i have a problem when i copy my Slicex's a couple of times for different effects.
I use "Pro Default" Pitch Shifting on it to make it 1 octave higher, and 1 octave lower with the same Tempo.
It gives an error when loading up the project the next time.

ha ..the funny thing about this is when i recorded my fl beats into the MV it sounded about 10 X more proffessional.Good to use both i would say.

Strange that nobody feels offended.... :hmmm:

I am glad that you are such a pro yourself...
