Looking to buy a dj mixer

Hi i actually was looking into buying a Vestax pcm 05 pro II from kijiji and everywhere i look im getting mixed reviews as broad as its a CLASSIC and what more can you say AMAZING... to really bad sound. Basically i have a mpc2000xl with no efx card and currently using and old yamaha receiver that gets me a pretty good sound. I was looking into a dj mixer for sampling (good sounding and EQ to cut lows out of hi hats and what have you) and because and ive always wanted to add some cuts to my beats. I have never scratched before and im not looking to become the next Qbert here just lay down some cuts and sample. Ive found a mint vestax for 175$ Canadian. Anything better for what im looking to use it for that you guys would recommend?

Oh and i make hiphop beats. Huge fan of the 90s and main inspirations are pete rock, diamond d, large pro, dilla, kankick etc

its not amazing - we're talking $175 - but it is an excellent mixer and perfect for what you're talking about.

depending on how old it is you might have to replace faders, but the good news is that is not hard to do.

Yeah im not expecting a Bozak or Urei obviously for that price but some things ive heard about the sound kinda got me to look deeper. A lot of people recommend the rane 56 but those are going for 5-600$ around these parts. Any other diamonds in the rough you would consider? doesnt matter if its a little more expensive.

for cutting+good sound a vestax is great.
sometimes you can find an old ecler for cheap and they sound amazing...not as hot in the scratch dept though.

i imagine you might could find an old rane but ranes can cover a lot of ground from straight mixing (no eq) to great for scratching so make sure it does what you want.

Thanks for the input Tape. Gonna get the vestax and im sure ill be happy. Worst case i can sell it for pretty much what i paid for it. Next step scratch cart! Im using the shure n97x for sampling allready.

It has hum. I paid too much for it and can't get rid of it. Sure it can mix and is durable but the slight hum is annoying.

Thanks for the heads up. dont think i would of ever bought that in the first place tho. The idea is cool but merging several products together usually ends up with a dissapointing and lackluster product in my experience.

Ended up being clean as hell. Barely any signs of use. Cant wait to start having some fun!
