So I got a couple HS80M studio monitors and I have those plugged directly into my MPC Ren. The Ren is plugging into my Mac via USB cable. I want to listen to iTunes and have all the sound from my Mac playing off these huge speakers I have.

However, to do this I need to keep my MPC powered on. How would I route the audio so that I could listen to music off my Mac without having the MPC powered on?

Should I get a DAC, an AMP, a Pre-AMP or should I just not even bother and just leave my MPC on at all times when listening to music through the speakers?

My Macbook Pro Retina does have Optical/SPDIF, as does the Ren, from my understanding. Should I try to use that instead of the Ren's internal soundcard?

Is spending more money on a piece of gear that will also need to be left on all the time in order to use it more sensible than just leaving the Ren on? Or do you just want to buy more stuff? ;)

The monitors have two sets of inputs (balanced jack or XLR) on each unit, use one set for the Ren and the other your Mac/iTunes.
