exactly. you won't notice. most people can't hear very much at all above ~20kHz or so; that's where the 44.1kHz standard came from, a little more than twice that.
16 vs 24 bit, maybe, if you did some sort of abx test, you might possibly notice a teeny bit. but otherwise, you won't.
it's basically just nowadays, memory (and bandwidth) is so cheap, so there's much less of a reason not to sample things at the highest quality available.
