Suggestions for old school sound/synth

What's up fellow producers. I'm looking for a synth with a certain type of old school sound. Instrument stores in my area are very limited. I'm going to post a video here for reference so you can get an idea of what I'm looking for. I'm concerned with the bass and the lead. It's a beat that is sampled. Kinda smooth jazz which is the direction I am experimenting with right now. I got some rompler's for electric pianos so I should be ok in that department, but would you recommend a DX7 or anything?

Anybody got any examples of similar sounds/music? Or anything that could help me decide if the DX7 is truly the direction I want to go in?

The E-Piano is a DX-7 preset, the bass does sound like the DX-7's slap bass a bit at the beginning but then through out the track sounds more like any ol mono synth.
Lead is pretty generic

when i think oldschool romplers and and smooth jazz, i tend to think korg triton/karma series.. although, maybe more of the ambient kind of jazzy stuff, which often is just more reverb than usual, lol

they got various extension cads for different/more kinds of sounds, at least the karma does

this youtube clip is showcasing lots of different on board patches on the Korg Karma.. but might be more than you look for, if you just want one type of specific sound.

The intro bass is the one I am talking about. It switches to a different. Bass pattern then switches back and forth.

Yeah thats a bit more than I'm looking for. What I'm working on is more of a fusion, more similar to the reference I gave.

Great tune...I remember having the single on cassette. "Lots of loving" sounds like the Roland D-50 to me.
You are in luck because they are everywhere... or... if you buy a roland vsynth XT that sound card comes in it. Or you can get the original v-synth and buy the d-50 card for it.

Much of the music back then was either Yamaha DX or Roland D-50.

....be aware of the fact that only full on nerds are capable to program new sounds on a dx 7....

and a dx 7 is an oldtimer you get only used for way too high prices....

if you never wanna think about a synth again.....and if you wanna screw your own sounds easily....store them easily.....four sounds at the same time on four separated midi channels routed to four separated outputs....rocksolid....individual....real synthesis....subtractive, fm, you name it...,and capable to perform reall bass, real leads, real pads, damned cool drums and beyond.....ultratight fast envelopes and raw energy....very smooth filter....and really with lots of punch....

well, then buy ONE synth and never look back.....clavias nord lead 2xt.....
they built this one since ten years and still do so....
i got the rack version locked to a mpc and it's a weapon....you can morph all sounds and tweak everything easily with direct access....every sound is really alive and breathing...and you can touch them all....

costs as much as a new mpc.....but this rock solid pro gear synth is everything you need in twenty years.....
