My soon to be ex cat just pissed on my 5k

Someones on their way to pick him up as we effing speak.



Holy crap, I think if I could actually catch him I'd just kill him.


Anyway, I've got the casing off, 3 fans pointed at it and I'm hoping and praying.

When I turned it on it powered on and all that, but started acting as if I was pressing buttons I wasn't pressing (kinda like how a cellphone freaks out when its wet). I know enough about electronics to know thats a good sign, since it's not shorted, but I am freaking the word were not allowed to say out.

Does anyone have ANY other ideas on what to do? I know this is just kind of a waiting game at this point, and im not going to turn it on for the next 48-ish hours. But yeah, if anyone has any suggestions or has ever dealt with a wet mpc before and has tips, PLEASE let me know

qtip up all the moisture, likely wont be that big of a deal as long as you dry it up, may wanna clean between the buttons and tacts real good, spray air in there afterwards and hope for the best.


on a side not, they say animals have great intuition about things.... don't blame that cat for thinking a 5000 is something to piss on.

Spilt a drink on my 4000 once....turned that shit off super fast and just let it dry for a day with the case off. Worked fine ever since....hope you have similar luck! (except I would definitely clean piss off.......will smell rank if you just let it dry lol)

Yeah, I work on computers for a living, so I kinda know what I'm doing (though I've never had someone turn in a computer with cat piss on the insides...).

I'm not noticing any corrosion or anything. Should I go over anything with rubbing alcohol or just dry it out and let it do its thing?

It wont just go away with evaporation.. You will have to clean it.

I suggest cleaning the outside.. then opening it up and cleaning the parts with a toothbrush and alcohol.. if a part is severely drenched.. I suggest you get a clean container (plastic or something) big enough to fit the entire drenched PCB inside and washing it with distilled water (you can buy that at the grocery store for cheap) pour it right on the board.. clean with a toothbrush or something to really get the grime out.. rinse it good.. even you could use tap water if your water is clean.. and maybe rinse it well with the distilled water?

anyhow it wont harm the part as long as it's 100% dry before powering it on.. let it dry for a few days (like a week) ... dont bother with fans.. it will blow dust to get stuck on the damp parts.


I have done this on electronics and got them fixed. You just have to determine how badly drenched everything is..

for sure soak the pads if those have piss on them.. the casing too can be soaked in water for a bit.

Sorry man. funny thing is cats are really intelligent and spiteful. The cat knows better than to piss on that thing. I'll bet the cat was feeling neglected and he / she knew exactly who to blame for your lack of time.

Cat piss is one of the most shadiest kind of piss out there next to rat piss and roach vomit. Its more oil based than water based. Letting it dry will just let it sink into the pores of the motherboard and smell like cat piss all day. Even cause rashes and other sickness'. Pet stores do sell cat piss cleaners that won't affect the cosmetics of the 5k. Usually a teaspoon of degreaser in a gallon of water would take it out but test it out first. Then spray some **** Contact all over the boards.

if you want to see exactly where the cat managed to piss in the mpc, use an ultraviolet light. cat pee glows in ultraviolet light.

I find it odd that people lets cats in their studio, even take pictures of cats sitting on their gear. But that's animal lovers for you, nothing and nowhere is out of bounds for their beloved pets.

If the animals in your home have free reign maybe covering tabletop gear with a protective plastic cover would be a sensible thing to consider. There are covers designed for MPCs, keyboards and mixers etc.

Lets just say I calibrate/maintain a piece of electronics (for work) that can occasionally become contaminated with vomit. I feel your pain bruh, hahaha

I cleaned that thing top to bottom with isopropyl alcohol last night, set it out. Turned it on just now, its still freaking out. Unplugged it.

Do I just not screw with it for like a week? Or do I need to clean it again? I don't see any obvious stains, and I spent like 2 hours cleaning it.
