surround sound monitors

does anyone use surround sound bookshelf speakers for monitors..im thinkin bout buying wharfedale 8.2 speakers instead of studio monitors.,.

i would not do that unless you plan on doing extensive surround mixing/monitoring. they are probably not going to give you a flat response.

studio monitors are built a lot better than your average homestereo surround janks. i would suggest you get something like the event tr8, or mackie hr624. both are moderately priced and pretty decent monitors.

keep in mind people spend TONS of money on their monitoring setups. i know one dude who is sooooooooo adamant about monitoring that he is building a control room in his house for almost a million duckets. sooooo, you are only gonna get but so far with a 500 dollar set up. but don't worry, i think pretty much all of us are in the same boat with our low budget monitoring set ups.

im in the same area but yo i was reading that beat tips manual and he suggest jsut hooking up some bookshelf speakers just two of them that got some bass to em. cuz i mena i hear that theres no point in mixing on low budget monitors so why nto jsut save hella and jsut get somethign to blam that sound out man. but its all preference and how you can get by. im jsut gonna buy soemthing cheap i dont know yet but most likely some 8" bookshelfs cuz i got some alright tiny surroudn sound computer speakers, a bass guitar amp real small and head phones and i randomly switch between the three depending on what i feel like.

the biggest thing about monitoring is personal preference. i mean if you like the way your mixes hold up to your favorite artists, then keep doin ya thing. i check my mixes relentlessly, meaning i will play a song i am mixing in SEVERAL different speakers to see how it translates.

one thing i learned early on is that while it may sound really sweet at home, it may not sound so good at the club. or your car. or your friends car. or your girls house.

you get the idea.

this is why some will spend so much money on their monitoring situations. because in the real world, they dont have time to check their mixes for 2 weeks on everybody and their brothers stereos, that ish has gotta go out the door that night, or right after the session, nahmean? they gotta trust the hell outta those monitors because thats the only thing in between them and the knobs and faders!

i feel ya but i dont got the cash for soem monitors right now so im jsut gonna dorp a few on some bookshelfs and roll with that and see how it turns out.
