Coolest multieffect / sound modifyer for mpc 2000xl and 1000

Hey! I got an mpc 2000xl and a mpc1000 and i really wanna mess around the sounds in these badboys! mostly i make hiphop beats but i love crazy effects and stuff, any suggestions? Peace!

grab a rackmount multi-effects unit for around $100. look for roland, yamaha, lexicon (e.g. lxp-5, mxp100). the more buttons to tweak the better. which makes the yamaha units less attractive.
the ensoniq dp2/dp4 are good, but go for more money.

can you use a soldering iron? if so, make your own guitar pedals. or buy a few guitar pedals. they can give a great sound to samples.
