I own a MPC1000 and an Access Virus Synth. I control the synth with the MPC and an external keyboard. The Virus has midi in/out/thru and the MPC has 2x midi in/out. This works great! but its a bit difficult to mix (level and pan) the tracks.
Is there a smart way I can connect a small digital mixer to control the mixing of either both the machines - or perhaps only the synth?

Got a reply from another forum:

"if all you want to do is individually control the volume levels of
each part, you can do this with a MIDI fader box sending out Midi
Volume Control Change messages on each channel (related to the part
on the Virus in Multi-mode) ... in between the MPC and the Virus (or,
in between the masterk keyboard and the virus/mpc) ... there are some
cheap slider/fader boxes out there now which can be programmed to do
this, such as from doepfer, etc.

in other words, you'd be using the Virus itself, to mix itself, just
sending Volume CC's to tell it what volume to set each part ..."
