Recommend me an 8 channel console

Hi,

Looking for a small format console, 8 channel minimum with direct outputs and insert points over each input channel. Ideally I want to route my MPC 1000 outputs to an analogue console for OTB processing and basic mix-downs.
Of course at the end of the day all recording will be done in Pro Tools via an RME Fireface 800, which can be routed from said console either by direct outs or by bussing (eg:2-track prints).

Something like the ATB (Toft) 08M would be ideal, but probably outside my budget. I want to stay away from 'utility' mixers like Mackie, Soundcraft, etc. And I'm not interested in USB/Firewire mixers.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

There's not much more than what you mentioned for small budget. I know just went through same process of looking and got lucky on eBay.
Maybe Yamaha mixers they sell now are ok and I see going pretty cheap.
I/O insert points not so much in cheaper mixers so good luck

Sometimes you really can't skimp out on price for pro audio....seriously considering the ATB but for 5K? shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

I lurked on eBay. But for a long time. OK mainly cos I didn't have the dosh, but the 4 track wasn't cutting it at all, so started looking. Now I was dreaming big, like what I really want but thought that I should set my sights lower. Less channels but cheaper, and not a certain brand either that shall remain nameless.

Now there are a few things to consider here as I am in Australia. We have a low population and very large distances between cities, so gear is not sold in large amounts (thats changing now) here and if it is its in Woop woop. That is actually a place btw. OK so not a lot to choose from and then its the chances of where they are. I have to also say that cos we are talking mixers second hand, and old ones at that, they weigh a bit, so no one wants to post or courier any of them and nearly every one is pick up only.

So I look on and off for a year at least, more really, maybe two, but not constantly. Like little side project, got a bit of time lets have a look at eBay. And every time I see one that is a bargain I see PICK UP ONLY. Hmmmm seriously considered travelling a thousand kilometres just to get a bargain. But really the added cost of travel and rule ect kinda makes it less of a bargain.

Then by chance the fates smiled on me, and I saw a bargain. So cheap I thought it was broken, and yes pick up only, but close, 20 minute drive. Got it and am chuffed of course. Can not tell if it is luck or just looking for ages a lot though. Maybe both.

I got it cheap because its old, heavy and big and they have gone digital i think, so they want to get rid of it and its like they are just trying to get rid of the hassle that they can be cos of weight and size.

Keep looking. But of course no guarantee either that stuff is good like new if second hand so watch out.
