I've got some nasty ground loop buzz in my studio and need advice from someone who knows wtf they're doing.
My setup is this: MPC 2500 and an ESQ1 going into a 10ch mixer, with the mixer's stereo outs going to a Delta 1010 on my PC. There's an effect loop with some ac-powered guitar pedals as well. These are normally all plugged into the same power strip.
The buzz is only audible through the PC, i.e. Delta 1010 outs. It seems as though the loop is created by my mixer and MPC, as the buzz only subsides when the MPC's ground is broken or when I remove all line connections between MPC and mixer. Interestingly, breaking the mixer's ground doesn't solve the issue.
What's my next step? I've isolated everything multiple times, and the *only* testable config that works is having the MPC ground either lifted or on a diff circuit. Someone suggested I try stringing wire between the metal chassis of my gear to see if any connections solved the loop, no luck there.
Should probably also mention that this house has 60+ year old wiring and I'm honestly not sure of the status (or even existence) of the grounds. Am I screwed if the wiring is all ungrounded?
