Im looking for a Midi keyboard with 25-keys and piano-style keys (not like the mini-sized keys on the microkorg synth and other controller keyboards)

I need one that will connect easily with Windows Vista and Ableton Live, and also be able to use WITHOUT a computer, so when I'm on the go without a PC, I can still use it to control other things, such as a module.

Anyone have any suggestions for a really solid and durable keyboard, that matches my needs above?

careful though, some of those keyboards are bus powered (no external power), and some of them do not actually have midi ports (just USB).

The M Audio Axiom Air looks sexy as **** Lamp!

Regular ole midi ports

Yep, power and midi ports are BIG factors in this equation.

I posted the exact keyboards I was looking into in the past few months, the m-audio joint IS really nice to look at!

I have always preferred MIDI PORTS instead of usb midi. Just my preferrence. I'd also not like USB powered anything, Me, myself I'd also rather have regular ole wall warts that can grab it's own power and not leech from other shit.

Only the Impulse I've actually touched and messed with, it's a solid shit and I like it lotz.

I've messed with the older axiom and it was a good build, hopefully the new Air's follow suite.

Plus, their automap software was just a huge buggy, quirky headache for me - so much so that I sold on an SL that, in theory, looked fantastic.

I've had M-audio and Akai controllers and both have been easy to set up, map and work with.

Yep same here, that is why i asked here first. i figured some of you may already have exactly what im looking for. that axiom air is something im looking into right now, thanks to your post. it's got a power switch, power outlet and also usb and midi i/o.

and reading that the novation mapping is buggy and made cheap, i may just go for that axiom air. thanks for the insight everybody, good lookin!!
