Computer software for best midi production

What computer software is best for recording and importing midi/audio from an mpc (1000)?
I'm primarily gonna be using my mpc1000 as a controller, and do the actual recording on the software sequencer. I want to be able to see what I've recorded on the mpc1000 as midi notes on the computer (as if I had recorded something with a midi keyboard).

ableton live is the hot shit. Acid 4.0 is cool but ableton can multitrack which is hot. Cubase is hot but expensive and Sonar is hot but no VSTI support, at least i anit seen it.

So can Acid. Sh*t, thats all i use it for is multitracking. I do all my vocals on Acid.... (wait, that sounds f*cked up.... hahah)

your not gonna need the mpc1000 with software..
get a copy of logic, and mpd-16 and a good audio interface, your set to go.

dont sleep on live 4, the learning curve is not as bad as cubase. the tuturial is very good. go to www.ableton.com and download the demo. very nice. live 4 with a mpc is a very nice setup for beginner to a advanced users. it also has rewire and vst support. live 4 is ideal for loop based music.

cubase is nice also but do you need surround sound and all the other bells and whistles it has. live 4 is serious, plus i paid $350 at guitar center where cubase and sonar is close to $600.

I think that it mostly boils down to preference, platform and price.

I use Cubase SL on a PC. Pretty cheap, pretty stable, pretty easy to use (for me at least). Your mileage may vary.
