Hi
I just created my account to help others who have the same issue I had
My 2000xl was producing samples that were intolerable to listen to
Playback of the samples were loud noise like crackling distortion noise
And I finally figured out that if I combine memory cards in a certain way I do not get that problem.
Try different memory sticks in different combinations
Now I am saving samples no problem

memory cards or memory sticks?

I already know the answer so I'll clarify.

It was a case of your memory sticks being unseated, meaning not all the way inserted/seated. If memory is unseated in the 2kxl (I've had this problem before and I think I've read here somewhere that others have had unseated ram problems in other mpc's as well) you'll get scratchy sound, harsh phasing, and other problems.

You switched the ram sticks around and doing that you actually reseated them, problem solved. I bet you can put them back in the same original locations and it will be fine if they are seated all the way.
