for pc i wouldnt even get it. i witnessed first hand the horrors of a pc and pro tools yesterday at another studio.

otherwiswe go for the 001, i used to **** about the sound quality till i started recording at 24K, sounds real good. i record vocals straight through the front, sounds good to. save some money.

at 800 im guessing you don't get the faders with 002.

i say go for the 001. spend the rest on taking your girl out to dinner.

although i'm really weary to promoting pt on a pc...work it at your own risk.

6.4 with 001 works like a charm for me. from the first minute. never got any errors (compared to cubase sx that gave me every time i wanted to edit midi tracks on the fly) or freezes or anything.

im guessing if your pc is optimized for protools and all the parts are compatible... it works better than most.

However, it's not certain that future updates to the software will support the 001.

Yeah what DigiB. said, they will probably not support the 001 much longer.
They are pushing for 001 users to upgrade to 002, soon they'll have an 003 I'm sure :? .
Then they'll push to upgrade to that, about every 18 months something new comes out software wise.

I'd get the 002 Rack if I were you due to the updates...

Well. Since there is no such thing as bug-free software, updates tend to be a necessary evil.

Pro Tools 6.2 w/ OS10.3.5 on my comp never crashes. i dont need updates and dont even worry about it.

6.4 is the last update that is guarenteed to work with the 001, future updtaes will not support it. While I can see where Doveski is comin from, "if it aint broke, leave it the flowers alone", there are good things that come from updates including supptort for new audio steaming formats(remember when ASIO was new)and new programs that make life easier, for example, if you had a 001 using PT 5.1 and also used Reason you probably wished there was a convinient way to use the two apps together. Well, with the introduction of PT 6, which included support for Rewire, you could now plug Reason right in and sequence in PT all day. I use PT with an old ass AMIII card in my main setup which can't run the latest 6.4 update, it's not a big deal as 99% of the stuff I don't need but there was a handy lil' update that docks the transport bar permanently in the window, which you PT users know can be a pain in the ass cuz the transport bar can get hidden under other screens sometimes.
