I'm fairly new to MIDI so I haven't been able to figure out howto set up the MPC and 303 to communicate so that I can use the 303 only as an effects box for the MPC.

I dont necessarily need to access the 303 sounds, I just want to apply the 303 effects onto my sounds in the MPC. I would really appreciate some guidance!

audio isn't transmitted through midi. The only way you can apply any 303 fx to sound coming from the mpc is by running outputs from the mpc (maybe the main outs or an assignable output or pair of outputs) using a 1/4 to rca adapter cable to the inputs of the 303, then you push the external source pad on the 303 and turn on fx (output from the 303 to the recording or monitoring device)

you can check the 303 midi implementation chart to see what types of things can be controlled via midi but the issue you have is, the 303 only has midi in, so what ever possibilities it may have... must be done from the controls of something going to a midi input on the mpc for it to be recorded into the mpc's sequencer. IE: you can't make a change on the 303 (from it's controls) and have that recorded in any way into the mpc. You may be able to get a midi controller with knobs to go midi in on the mpc, and midi out from the mpc to the 303... and perhaps using the midi chart you can find a CC number that can be affected... but I am not sure if the knobs have midi implementation because I have never wanted to try.
