such thing as MIDI only PCI-e?

Is there such thing as a PCI-e board that only has MIDI In & Out and no USB or Firewire? Just MIDI straight to the PC?

I don't think PC can handle 2 different interfaces active at the same time.

So I was thinking I'd use a Firewire Onyx for Audio... and then a PCI-e card... connected MIDI In & Out to my keyboard.

I'll keep looking and see what I can find, but all I've found so far also have audio connections... and I'm afraid they would conflict with my Mackie Onyx Audio Interface.

1 MIDI In - 1 MIDI Out would be just fine, 2in -2out would be perfect.

Yes, you can find a PCI-E based sound card that would have midi i/o for sure.

For the first time a couple nights ago, I started reading up on USB, Firewire and PCI speeds and I was seeing graphs that PCI-e was even faster than USB 3.0.

I'm just assuming that PCI-e MIDI would be quicker (less latency/jitter) than a USB MIDI / Firewire MIDI Interface.

Just trying to cut down on external hookups and multiple USB things being connected.

Take a look at Expert Sleepers if you want the lowest midi output latency possible from a PC - it sends midi over audio so it is sample accurate. I know someone who uses their stuff and swears by it. It looks a bit complex and is not cheap, the units are eurorack and you need at least two modules (plus an audio interface with adat outs and the Silent Way software) to get a working system.
