whats better ? ZIP OR JAZ

Reliable compared to what? Not sure what your frame of reference is for `reliable`. It is not as reliable as Compactflash cards, which is what I use. They are not as reliable as hard drives. They are not as reliable as Syquest drives. Hmmm, come to think of it I cannot think of any drive that is LESS reliable than Zip.

Remember that Zips are mass marketed consumer items. Anything manufactured for the mass market is going to be cheap, unreliable and disposable (fixing costs more than new). VCR's, TV's, radios are all like this.

If you HAVE to use Zips, keep at least two drives (one is spare), and make backups all the time. Every day someone loses hours of work since their only copy was on the one Zip that failed. Don't let that person be you.

I find zips very reliable - I've not had any fail on me, although I make sure I keep a backup of everything just in case. Just treat them with respect, dont drop them and keep them away from magnets!

I gotta a jaz, but finding the cables for it is a pain....

reliability

I have a JAZ drive, no problems so far. But, how can i save a back up if i only have one JAZ drive? I wouldnt want to even think how i would feel if i lost all the time and work i put into my production. Please help.

good point. hope for the best i guess. u can always try to back up stuff on ur computer, thats what i plan to do. jaz's are supposedly reliable though, so i wouldnt fret. peace

do yourself a favor and get away from jaz drives. they're outdated and you're going to find yourself getting another form of storage soon. go with zips... as long as you take care of them (ie. are not careless with them, then you'll be okay.) I've never had any problems losing info. from zips OR from floppies when i used them... just treat your stuff with respect.

but seriously, get away from jaz stuff NOW
