i just got an mpc and im thinking about getting other equipment for it soon. Can you guys do me a favor and write down what kind of setups your workin with so i can get a idea of what to go out and buy

Currently have an MPC 2000xl fully loaded, Emu 5000 sampler, Mackie 1642VLZ Pro, HHB 850 burn IT cd recorder, Techniques 1210 turnatable, portable mini disc, PC with Cubase & Logic, amps, speakers, external cdrom drives, zip drives...
the list goes on. Its all about what YOU want. With all of the stuff I have (and that aint sh*t compared to others) I realy only use my MPC and the Emu to get creative, the other stuff is just sundries.

Mackie mixing desks are like industry standard. I needed a compact mixer as space was (and still is !) a big issue. The sound you get from Mackie is on point. I would suggest 1604 VLZ pro or the 1642 but ask people in the industry for their opinion on mackie before letting loose on the c.r.e.a.m.

Lexicon Mpx-1 (multieffect) but i only use it for the reverbs
Ensoniq dp-4 (multieffect) very warm and big sounding effect

i was just at guitar center yesturday. i dont know too much about mixers and saw the mackie dfx series which wasnt that expensive. would it be a good move to buy it or just save for a bettter one

BIG TIP:

You can get a Mackie 1604 (not the VLZ model) for 325 bucks used on eBay, this is a steal (it was like $1000 when released). This things give your signal a thick boost, good headroom, and super EQs. You dont need the VLZ it just adds the XLR expansion board, more than I need or most of you probably need. Get one.

aight, im starting to get the basics down with my turntable and my mixer. now i look at ur lists of things in ur labs and was wondering what else i really need. also i know the 2000xl is a sampler,but can someone tell me what the advantage of getting akai or emu sampler, cuz when it comes to that kind of stuff im lost, just like i was when i first got my mpc, also what is a good soundcard to get. thanx guys, without this forum i would still be mpc illiterate, esp. with that reatarded manual

why do you need a mixer if you only have the mpc now and no other gear? Do you have the 8-out card installed or something? As you can see, most people here have a million samplers and modules hooked up to a mixer. That's why they need a mixer.
I would suggest getting some more stuff to hook up your mpc first. You already have a computer, so why not buy a zipdrive and some nice programs to make your sampling life easier (Wavelab, ReCycle, MPC-Editor, Cubase ).
And since you asked about a soundcard: Why not buy a soundcard with multiple inputs right away? That way there wouldn't really be any need for a mixer ever again. I don't know if you have a pc or mac, so i can't be to specific, but check these sites out for soundcards:

I use to have 2 ASR-10 Keyboards, Behringer truths, mackie 1604vlz pro (got rid of it since I record to PC and the 1604A does a great job to send the sound to the monitors) and ALesis M1 originals.

I plan on getting a s950 or a eps 16 + rack. I might check out the s1100 since that was mentioned around here.

nah i think u misunderstood me. i have mpc 2000xl hooked up to a eurorack 1204 mixer with a turntable hooked up to it. basically i was just asking if a seperate sampler is a good investment and what it could really do for me and i guess what a good one to get it. thanx
