is it possible to use a control surface, like tascam, or baby hui, on your D.AW, and still use outboard hardware effects like compressors, reverbs, gates. etc. assigned on any audio channel i want to use them on.

the reason being, the quality of my 16 track soundtrack really cant cut it like mixing on the pc. in terms of quality, but i still want to use outboard.

Depends on what surface you got, I got a Tascam FW1884 and it has inserts for outboard gear such as those.

On the Digi 002 it's quite simple, use the inpout/output as send &return, you'll have to config your soft mixer with Aux tracks so you'll able to route (bus) your signal through it...

With something like a mackie control it's different. There are no in and outputs, so you use the spare inputs on your soundcard. You can still set up an efx send, but it depends on the sofware how it works. You'll also have to mess with delay compensation but unless all your outboard is digital it's a lot of work.
